The Vande Bharat Express, already renowned for its speed and comfort, is set to introduce a new sleeper variant designed for longer overnight journeys. This development is part of Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to modernize its fleet and enhance passenger experiences.
The new sleeper version of the Vande Bharat trains is expected to feature several upgraded amenities:
- Comfortable Sleeper Berths: Unlike the current Vande Bharat trains, which are day-train services with only seating, the sleeper variant will include fully reclining berths, allowing passengers to sleep comfortably during long-distance travel.
- Advanced Technology: The sleeper trains will maintain the semi-high-speed capability of the Vande Bharat series, traveling at speeds up to 160-180 km/h. They will be equipped with modern suspension systems to ensure a smooth ride, even at higher speeds.
- Enhanced Passenger Amenities: Like the existing Vande Bharat trains, the sleeper variant will likely feature state-of-the-art facilities such as onboard Wi-Fi, infotainment systems, modern restrooms, and ample luggage space. Improved lighting and climate control systems will also be included to ensure passenger comfort during overnight journeys.
- Energy Efficiency and Design: These trains will be energy-efficient, with lightweight materials and aerodynamic design that contribute to both reduced travel times and energy consumption.
- Production and Deployment: Indian Railways has planned an extensive rollout of these sleeper trains, with production expected to begin soon. These trains will eventually replace older sleeper coaches on key routes across the country, providing a more modern travel experience.
The introduction of the Vande Bharat sleeper trains marks a significant step forward in India’s railway modernization efforts, catering to the growing demand for faster, more comfortable long-distance travel options.
Expected to launch in December 2024.
